June 12, 2010: End date for 700 MHz Wireless Mic Operation

March 10, 2010

As part of the reorganization of the UHF television spectrum, the FCC has reserved the 700 MHz band for exclusive use by Public Safety agencies and licensed wireless service providers.

Therefore, all wireless microphones, bodypacks, and in-ear monitors must cease operations in the 700 MHz band (698–806 MHz) after June 12, 2010.  Wireless systems below or above the 700 MHz range are not affected by this reorganization and may continue to be operated as usual.

The majority of professional wireless systems sold within the US in recent years fall outside the 700 MHz range, as manufacturers have anticipated the new FCC regulations. Additionally, most manufacturers offer rebate programs for consumers who need to convert their existing systems out of the 700 MHz range.
